Our Work

Book Sale Proceed Recipients Over the past 28 years of book sales, Altrusa International, Inc. of Columbus, Georgia, has donated over $170,000 to the Columbus community in the form of grants, awards, and contributions to local recipients. This is in addition to our hands-on work with various environmental and literacy projects. The 2007-2008 Hands on Project was adopting a room at Hope Harbor, the local battered women's shelter, to decorate. The shelter serves women and children who have left abusive relationships for a safe place. The rooms are primarily very sterile looking and very small. Altrusa members chose a room that had one set of bunk beds and a twin bed , purchased matching bedding, a small area rug, mirror and a lamp. We painted the walls in a soft beachy green which instantly brightened up the room. Photos to follow.

OTHER RECIPIENTS : Springer Children's Theatre and the Literacy Alliance
