Altrusa is a service organization with a primary focus on literacy. Our major fund raising event is a Used Book Sale, traditionally held over Labor Day weekend in conjunction with National Literacy Week. We give away all proceeds for scholarships (music, drama, environmental, vocational) and to local charities such as the Ronald McDonald House, Keep Columbus Beautiful, the Girl Scouts, etc. We have made a pledge of $10,000 for the Endowment Fund of the new Muscogee County Library.
All of our books are donated – and we are always looking for more. Old books can be deposited in the blue barrels located at McDonald's from June through the middle of August, or call 324-0249 for more information about the Booksale.
